Hi all!
Just a quick update. Due to no school for the kids Friday of next week (11/11) and early dismissal the Friday before Thanksgiving (11/18), we will not be having spelling tests the next two weeks. Please remember that we do still have a poem (The First Thanksgiving of All) that will be due on Thursday, November 17th. It will be a fill in the blank type test. Have a great week!

Hello!
We have a new format for our spelling and vocabulary test. I will still be sending home a list of 10 words with 5 definitions the same as we have been doing since the beginning of this school year. Starting in two weeks (August 23), we will have a spelling test where I will give the students all 10 words to spell and I will be actually saying all of the words. This is a change from what we have been doing where I say the first 5 words, then on 6-10 I say "Write the word that means...". After the spelling test, there will be a short vocabulary quiz where the students will need to either match words to their definitions, fill in the blanks using a word bank with all of the vocabulary words written, or both. As a reminder, there will be no spelling list for this week (September 12-16) due to the short week. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I will answer them. Have a great rest of the weekend!! Mr. Hofer It's almost time for poem #1!
Please don't forget, our first poem, "By Myself", is due to be recited next Thursday, September 1st. Students can earn 5 bonus points by saying the poem ahead of time next week. They must ask me in person to be able to do the poem early. Also, once they start the poem, it counts as their grade, so make sure you remind them to make sure they're ready before they ask! The spelling list that's due Friday the 2nd is updated in the button on the right. Have a wonderful weekend! Mr. Hofer Week 2 is in the books!
Hi! Don't forget that reading logs are due this coming Monday, August 22. Also, I've updated the button on the right with our new spelling list that goes along with our story for next week, My Very Own Room. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Mr. Hofer Our first poem!
Our first poem is "By Myself" by Eloise Greenfield. The students will recite this poem in class on Thursday September 1. The text for the poem is on the back of their conduct page, or you can find and/or print it out using the "current poem" button to the left of this post. I will keep the button updated when we go on to new poems throughout the year. I have also added a button that links to the current spelling list that I will update each Friday with the next week's list. Mr. Hofer SPELLING LIST -- TEST IS ON AUGUST 19, 2016
This year we will be focusing on spelling the vocabulary words that we are learning while reading our stories. The first 5 words are words that are in the story and will need to be spelled correctly. Words 6 through 10 are the vocabulary words that we are studying specifically this week. They have their definitions included. The students do not need to spell the definitions. On these words we will say, for example, "Write the word that means trial performances". The students do not need to be able to spell the definitions. The students will need to know that this is referring to "auditions" and will need to write the word. Here is the spelling list for the week ending August 19th: 1. memory 2. companion 3. ballet 4. stunning 5. sparkling 6. auditions -- trial performances 7. adventure -- an exciting, unusual, or risky business 8. exploring -- searching for purpose of discovery 9. fantastic -- splendid 10. success -- a favorable achievement Have a great weekend!! Mr. Hofer Welcome to 3rd Grade! |
